For the cases that leave you wondering what to do next

We all know those cases. You’ve taken a thorough history, looked at the pathology and tried a few approaches, but something still isn’t adding up.

Sometimes all it takes is hearing how another practitioner tackled a similar case to get you thinking differently.

That’s what I love about Paediatrics in Practice. Getting experienced clinicians in a room, hearing how they actually work through cases and having the conversations we don’t always get time for, especially when so many of us are working alone from home or seeing clients via telehealth.

A personal invitation from me

When I first created Paediatrics in Practice in 2026, I had no idea quite how special the day would be. The response was beyond anything I expected, and I loved hearing how much people took away from it.

What made me happiest was hearing from practitioners who were already using what they’d learnt with their clients.

So we’re doing it again in 2027, and we’re going bigger!

This year we’re heading to UTS Aerial in Sydney, with a larger exhibition space and more opportunities to catch up with our practitioner community.

I’ve been carefully choosing our speakers because I genuinely want to hear what they have to say. These are clinicians whose work I respect and whose experience I know will be valuable to share. I want the presentations to be the kind that leave you thinking about your own clients and excited to get back into clinic.

I would love to see you there.

What you will explore

Our program will bring together a diverse range of paediatric topics, including:

The influence of the maternal microbiome on shaping a healthy pregnancy & the role of probiotics in improving paediatric oral health.

How experienced practitioners approach tricky cases, including their reasoning and treatment decisions.

Heavy metals and the clinical considerations when working with paediatric clients.

How to use hair tissue mineral analysis, or HTMA, effectively, interpret findings in context and translate them into practical clinical decisions.

Tongue ties and other oral restrictions.

Case discussions that connect testing, assessment and the realities of supporting children and their families.

More topics and speaker announcements to come.

Nearly 70% of children under five tested in Port Pirie in 2024 had blood lead levels above 5 µg/dL, the NHMRC exposure investigation level.

42% of Australian children aged five to ten had experienced decay in their baby teeth, according to the National Child Oral Health Study conducted in 2012 to 2014.

The rate of Medicare recorded tongue tie procedures in Australian children aged 0-4 rose by 420% between 2006 and 2016. This measures procedures, not a rise in the underlying prevalence of tongue tie.

These figures are a reminder of just how much there is to consider when we’re working with children, and why continuing to learn from each other matters.

A little about me and why I created this event

I’m Sonya Reynolds, a degree qualified Clinical Nutritionist with over 17 years of clinical experience. Much of my work is in paediatrics, particularly children’s digestive health, constipation and epilepsy.

My interest in paediatrics is personal. When my eldest daughter was diagnosed with a complex form of epilepsy at three years old, it changed the direction of my career and the way I looked at children’s health.

Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to meet some incredible practitioners. People doing really interesting work, asking good questions and generously sharing what they’ve learnt along the way.

I kept thinking, why aren’t we getting more of these people in the same room?

That’s really where Paediatrics in Practice came from. I wanted to create the kind of event I’d be excited to attend myself. Somewhere we could hear from people doing the work, ask questions and spend time with others who care as much about paediatric health as we do.

And after seeing what happened in 2026, I can’t wait to bring everyone together again.
